Hired on his 30th birthday, Chris Briggs had big dreams and plans for the Georgetown College men's basketball program he had come to love through his four years as an assistant. The Tigers have an expectation of success and a leadership of legendary coaches. The youthful coach has definitely kept both of those traditions going.

In just two seasons, and only 31 years of age, Briggs' is 54-17 (76.1 winning percentage) with a national title and NAIA Coach of the Year to his credit.

"Winning the national title, with this team, is such an amazing feeling," Briggs said. "These guys worked so hard and you could see the change in demeanor and focus when we were in Kansas City. That is one of the toughest tournaments out there. You are playing five games in six days, it can wear on anyone.

"But we wanted it and went and got it."

Georgetown College men's basketball team has had one staple the past several years – Vic Moses. The Lexington native picked the Tigers straight out of high school and has been a dominant presence in his four years. He missed his scheduled senior season when in the spring of 2011 he tore his Achilles, but took the red shirt and worked on his game until he could finish his career out in Orange & Black in 2012-13.

Now he and the team are reaping the rewards of all the dedication and hard work. Moses, the four-time NAIA All-American, was named to the First-Team Monday afternoon. He helped guide the Tigers to their first national title since 1998.

"This is what you work for and why I came to Georgetown," Moses said. "The tradition here is excellence. It was a goal of mine to win a national championship and every one of us worked hard to get here.

"It is a team effort and every night we all just did what we needed to do to help the team. I'm not here, enjoying this moment, without all of my teammates."

Georgetown College men's basketball climbed the mountain and liked the view. The clawed, scrapped, hustled and out-muscled Southwestern Assemblies of God University of the Tigers first national title since 2001 and first in men's basketball since 1998.

The No. 13 team in the nation and an at-large seven seed to the brutal 31-game, six-day tournament, made good on preseason predictions of it being the favorite to win it all this year. The Tigers (28-8) started slow, but once the wheels got turning never looked back in an 88-62 victory over the Lions.

Heart and grit have been two consistent components for Georgetown College men's basketball team. Both shined once again on ESPN3 as the No. 13 Tigers (27-8) roared back from an eight-point halftime deficit and a five-point deficit late to knock out Louisiana State University-Shreveport in the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Fab Four game Monday in Kansas City, Mo.

Monty Wilson, one-shy of his career high, hit the biggest shot of the season with a bomb of a three-pointer as time wound under a second for GC's 90-88 comeback win. The junior finished with 32 points and eight rebounds.

The Tigers return to the finals for the fifth time and first since 2000. GC is 1-3 in the finals, winning the crown in 1998.
