Women's Cross Country Weekly Report – Aug. 25

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 2016 women's cross country season begins this week with Life (Ga.) the only team from the Mid-South Conference in action during week one.

Life is slated to compete at the Cougar Challenge in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday evening. The Running Eagles are coming off of a third-place finish at the MSC Championships last fall.

NAIA Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Shawnee State (Ohio) is the only team from the Mid-South Conference mentioned in the NAIA Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Wednesday.

Shawnee State is ranked 13th in the poll with 350 total points. The Bears were selected as the favorite to win the MSC title this season after being ranked atop the conference preseason poll last week.

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Shawnee State (Ohio) was the near unanimous favorite to capture the 2016 Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Championship, according to the coaches' preseason poll, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

The Bears earned 49 total points and seven of the eight first-place votes. In 2015, Shawnee State won the conference title recording 18 total team points.

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jamaine Gordon announced on Wednesday that Nick Wilson has been hired as the head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach for the Blue Raiders.

Wilson takes over the helm of the men's and women's cross country programs, while Gordon will oversee all operations of the Blue Raider cross country and track & field programs, including continuing to serve as the head track & field coach.

NAIA Women's Cross Country Top 25 Coaches Poll

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Shawnee State (Ohio) closed out the 2015 season ranked No. 12 in the NAIA Women's Cross Country Postseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, NAIA officials announced on Wednesday.

The Bears received 262 voting points from the national raters after a 12th-place finish at the national championships on Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
