WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Golf programs have built themselves a reputation throughout the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and the NAIA as one of the elite teams in the country.  Numerous conference titles along with appearances in the NAIA National Championship Tournaments have been frequent throughout the last eight and a half years under the coaching of Chris Kraftick.  Now as Kraftick transitions into the role of Athletic Director at UC, a new man will be at the helm of the Patriot golf programs.

Taylor Riggs has been named the new Head Coach for the UC Men and Women's Golf programs, Kraftick announced on Thursday.  Riggs comes to Cumberlands from Eastern Kentucky University where he was an assistant coach for the Colonels last season.  While there, the women's team won three tournaments including the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championship while the men earned one tournament victory.

POOLER, Ga. -- The University of the Cumberlands Women's Golf team finally finished its opening round of the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday after rain washed out a large portion on play on Tuesday.  Although course conditions were not ideal, the Patriot ladies pushed through the elements on their way to tying for the lead after the opening round of play.

UC shot a first-round team score of 306, tying with Kaiser University at 18 over par.  Coastal Georgia sits two shots back in third while USC-Beaufort and Indiana Tech are tied for fourth place three shots off the lead.  The second round of play, which was scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled, cutting the tournament currently to 56 holes.
