NAIA SOFTBALL PRE-SEASON RATING PRESS RELEASE January 23, 2007
2007 MID-SOUTH SOFTBALL TITLE Campbellsville is the defending 2006 regular season and conference tournament champions. The University of the Cumberlands and Georgetown College tied for second place with 17 points, with Lindsey Wilson College one point behind in fourth place with 16. Pikeville College was voted # 5 and conference newcomer West Virginia Tech was # 6. Member schools will begin play in mid-February with the 20-game conference schedule starting on March 16. The MSC Conference Tournament is scheduled for April 27-28 at Skyview Park & Jeffersontown High School in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. The following are the placing positions, total points and first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. 1. Campbellsville University -- 25 points -- (5 first-place votes) 2t. U. of the Cumberlands -- 17 points 2t. Georgetown College -- 17 points -- (1 first-place vote) 4. SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT Game 3 -- # 4 Campbellsville def. # 1 Georgetown, 3-0 Game 4 -- # 2 Lindsey Wilson def. # 6 Lambuth, 7-3 Championship Game Game 5 -- # 2 Lindsey Wilson def. # 4 Campbellsville, 3-0 Mid-South Conference Softball Championship Game Recap Kristen Philpotts pitched a 5-hit shutout as # 2 seed Lindsey Wilson College won the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament over # 4 Campbellsville University, 3-0 on Saturday at Jeffersontown High School. Lindsey Wilson took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning as Melissa Shelton doubled with 2 out, and then scored on single by Leigh Ann Collins. The Blue Raiders also scored 2 runs in the 5th inning. Whitney Frazier singled to lead off the inning. Following a sacrifice bunt by Cassie Bertram, Whitney Reynolds tripled to drive in Frazier. Mandy Hurst then singled to plate Reynolds, completing the scoring for LWC. In semi-final action earlier in the day, Campbellsville blanked # 1 seed Georgetown College, 3-0, while Lindsey Wilson was a 7-3 winner over # 6 Lambuth University. Both Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown will advance to the NAIA Region XI Tournament in two weeks at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. |
