IN NAIA PRE-SEASON POLL

Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer member Lindsey Wilson College has been voted # 1 in the NAIA Pre-Season rating poll released on Wednesday, August 16. The Blue Raiders (23-1-1 in 2005) are the defending National Champions.

CHOICE IN MEN'S SOCCER


Lindsey Wilson College, the 2005 NAIA National Championships, has been picked as the favorite by the coaches of Mid-South Conference to win the 2006 MSC Men's Soccer Championship.

The Blue Raiders, 23-1-0 in 2005, are also the defending regular season, conference, regional champions. They received a total of 24 points and 4 first-place votes. University of the Cumberlands (14-5-0) was voted second with points and received 2 first-place votes. Georgetown College (9-9-1) is third with 17 points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Mid-South Conference Championship is scheduled to begin October 28 with play-in games at campus sites, with the tournament finals being held October 30 & 31 on the campus of Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky.

West Virginia Tech is joining the MSC this season, replacing Lambuth as a full member.

WELLS NAMED NAIA MEN'S
SOCCER COACH OF THE YEAR

Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer coach Ray Wells has been named 2005 Brine-NAIA Men's Soccer Coach of the Year, according to the NAIA.

The award, a NAIA-record sixth for Wells, was announced at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention held in Philadelphia. Wells also won the award in 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001.

"This is an incredible honor and I am grateful to the NSCAA for this prestigious award," Wells said. "This award is a reflection of the hard work of our student-athletes and our coaching staff and the continuing support of the Lindsey Wilson College administration and the Columbia community. I graciously accept this award on the behalf of those who have supported us this season."

Wells has led the Blue Raiders to seven National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national championships, including four straight (1998-2001). Lindsey Wilson won the 2005 title with a 4-1 win over Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University on November 22, 2005. The Blue Raiders ended the season NAIA men's soccer-best 23-1-0 record. With its seventh national championship, Lindsey Wilson is second among the NAIA schools with the most national titles.

The Blue Raiders trail only Quincy (Ill.) University's 11 titles. Wells created the Lindsey Wilson men's soccer program from scratch in 1990. In 16 seasons, the Blue Raiders have compiled a 317-46-19 record, including 32-6-4 record at the national tournament. Lindsey Wilson is 7-0 in national championship matches.

In addition to winning seven NAIA national titles, Lindsey Wilson has won 15 conference titles and nine regional titles in 16 seasons under Wells.

Wells was selected by the members of the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Association.

PICOU NAMED NAIA MEN'S
SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shawn Picou of the University of the Cumberlands was named the NAIA National Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending September 11. The junior forward from New Orleans recorded six goals and two assists (14 points) to lead Cumberlands to a 2-0 record for the week. Picou scored three goals in the Patriots’ 9-1 win against Urbana and also tallied three goals and two assists in the team’s 7-0 win against Spalding. Cumberlands improved its record to 5-0-0 on the season.

Lambuth University (8-10-0) and the University of the Cumberlands (16-5-1) tied for second place with 17 points each, with Lambuth getting 1 first-place vote. The Mid-South Conference Championship is scheduled to begin October 29 with play-in games at campus sites, with the tournament finals being held October 31 & November 1 on the campus of Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky.

With Pikeville College adding soccer to its sports program this fall, six teams will now compete in the league.

Phil Zabaks, freshman goalkeeper for Lindsey Wilson College, was named the NAIA National Player of the Week. He helped lead LWC to a 2-0-1 record in 3 games last week, all against nationally ranked teams, allowing only one goal in 254 minutes.

Lindsey Wilson College has been tabbed as the favorite by the coaches Mid-South Conference to win the 2004 Season Men's Soccer Championship.

The Blue Raiders (18-4-1 in 2003), the defending regular season and conference tournament champions, received 16 points and 4 first-place votes. Cumberland College (8-5-4), second during last year's regular season to LWC, edged out Lambuth University for second place with 12 points. Lambuth, who was the runner-up to LWC in conference tournament last season, was third in the balloting with 11 points and received 1 first-place vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

The Mid-South Conference Championship is scheduled for November 1-3, and will be held on the campus of Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky.
