Campbellsville University's Miranda Meeks, the defending Mid-South Conference Runner of the Year, ran 500 meters off course Saturday but recovered to win the Georgetown College Invitational.

Campbellsville’s Meeks and Sara Branch were running first and third in the race when they missed a turn just past the one mile mark.  “There was no one there to direct them and the course was not clearly marked,” said C.U. Cross Country Coach Mark Rowe.   Meeks, Branch, along with a Georgetown and Kentucky Wesleyan runner realized their mistake about 500 meters later.

Meeks got back with the pack in 30^th place and worked her way back up to win the meet.  “It was the most encouraging display of heart I have ever seen at a cross country meet,” said Rowe.  Campbellsville’s Breanna Milby finished 5^th while Branch ended up 14^th after the miscue.

Campbellsville placed third overall in the meet behind Kentucky Wesleyan and Georgetown College.
