JACKSON, Tenn. - (Box Score) Vanguard (Calif.) University survived the first overtime game of the 2010 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship with a 64-57 win over Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College. After playing to a 57-57 tied in regulation, Vanguard outscored the Blue Raiders 7-0 in overtime.

Vanguard is the third one-seed to play in the opening round with all three advancing to this point.

The Lions escaped a first round upset despite shooting just 32 percent from the field and 17 percent (5-29) from three point range.

Lindsey Wilson, an eight-seed, scored the game's first six points and held a 10-9 lead with 11:18. However, Vanguard was able to grab their first lead at 11-10 with a basket from Nondi Johnson. Vanguard led by as many as five points on two occasions, including 18-13 at the 5:17 mark of the first half. The Blue Raiders posted a 10-4 run to regain the lead 23-22 with 2:45 left, before the teams settled for a 25-25 halftime tie.

In the second half, Vanguard outscored Lindsey Wilson 12-6 over the first six minutes to take their largest lead of the game to this point at 37-31.

However, the Blue Raiders refused to go away. An 8-0 run by Lindsey Wilson gave the Blue Raiders another lead at 39-37 with 11:13 left. Four ties and four lead changes occurred over the remainder of the half.

Vanguard led 57-52 with 1:47 remaining following a three pointer from Jaclyn Blied. Lindsey Wilson got 1-of-2 free throws from Sierra Rambert and a field goal by Viktoria Krell to pull the Blue Raiders to within two points, 57-55. After a miss from Vanguard, the Blue Raiders had one final shot inside 10 seconds. Dionda Anthoney drove the lane and tied the game with just one second remaining.

The Lindsey Wilson momentum did not carry over into the extra period as Vanguard pulled away for the 64-57.

Vanguard was led by Bridgette Reyes with 19 points. Rachel Copeland added 11 points and Blied pulled down 10 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson was led by Krell with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Kasey Litzinger added 10 points. The Blue Raiders shot 41 percent from the field, but only 15 percent (2-13) from long range.

Vanguard (26-2) will play Bethel (Tenn.) on Friday at 2:15 p.m. in the second round. Lindsey Wilson ends their season with a 20-12 record.
