LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- St. Catharine College's Hagan Goldey and University of Rio Grande's Anna Smith are the Mid-South Conference Softball Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The conference's weekly honor is the first of the season for both Goldey and Smith. Goldey concluded the week batting .500 (12-of-24) with three home runs and 12 runs batted in to earn the conference's hitter of the week. The Lancaster, Ky., freshman, recorded multiple hits in three of her eight games and hit safely in six of the games. Goldey added three doubles and a pair of stolen bases while helping the Patriots to a 3-5 week in their first week of play. Smith pitched a one-hit shutout in the Redstorm's 8-0 win over Ohio State University Newark to earn the conference's pitcher of the week award. The Ross, Ohio, sophomore, struck out six en route to winning her first game of the season. Smith didn't allow the lone OSU Newark hit until the fifth and final inning of the game. Rio Grande ended the game in five due to the mercy rule. Rio Grande finished its first week of competition with a 2-0 record MSC Players of the Week
