FRANKFORT, Ky. - Natiera Hinton scored 29 points to lead No. 6-seed Pikeville (Ky.) College past No. 3-seed Georgetown (Ky.) College 87-73 on Thursday in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at the Frankfort Civic Center.

Whitney Compton added 18 points and five rebounds, while Meagan Johnson tallied 13 points for the Lady Bears.

The Tigers (18-12) were led by Jessica Waddle and Emily Drees with 18 and 10 points, respectively. Drees also pulled down five rebounds.

Pikeville (17-14) advances to Friday's semifinals where they will face No. 2-seed University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at 4 p.m. ET. The Lady Bears win over Georgetown was the first upset of the tournament.

The game went through different phases of separation as Georgetown led by as many as 12 points at halftime while also struggling to keep a lead during most of the first half. The last 10 minutes of the game, however, were all about Pikeville.

Hinton and the Lady Bears went on a 21-5 run starting with 7:21 to play in the second half that gave them a nine-point lead on a 3-pointer by Jalisa Jones with just under two minutes to play in the game.

Georgetown never recovered as Pikeville hit its free throws down the stretch and led 83-71 with 50 seconds to play after Compton knocked down a pair of shots from the line. The Lady Bears were set on not surrendering their lead as they hit 10-of-12 free throws during the last two minutes of the game.

Pikeville finished the game shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from the 3-point line (7-of-15). The Lady Bears connected on 80.0 percent of their free throws (20-for-25), while Georgetown attempted just 12 free throws, hitting nine.

The Tigers shot 44.4 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from behind the arc (8-of-23).
