FRANKFORT, Ky. - No. 2 seed University of the Cumberlands had no problem in the opening round of the 2010 Mid-South Conference women's basketball tournament, knocking off No. 7 St. Catharine College 78-51 Thursday afternoon in the Frankfort Convention Center.

Cumberlands (23-8), ranked 16^th in the country in NAIA Div. I play, held a 34-20 lead at the half and cruised to the win. Cumberlands will play the winner of the day's final game between No. 3 Georgetown and No. 6 Pikeville on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the second semifinal game.

Top-seed Campbellsville will play No. 4 Lindsey Wilson in the other semifinal, which shall tip off at 2 p.m.

St. Catharine (8-23) took the lead early on, and when junior Reena Haliburton scored inside, the advantage was 9-6 with 14:31 left.

St. Catharine led one other time at 12-11, but from there Cumberlands scored 17 unanswered points, and when sophomore Amanda Brimm scored inside with 4:53 to play, the one-point deficit was turned into a 27-12 lead.

Cumberlands controlled the rest of the game, building its lead to 31 at one point when senior Amber Neace hit a three-pointer with 5:03 left to make the lead 70-39 before settling for the 27-point win.

Four Cumberlands players reached double figures, led by sophomore all-conference pick Lauren Wombles' 18. Wombles was 3-of-5 from the arc and followed with five rebounds. Senior Lauren Martin followed with 14 points, while junior Stephanie Quattrociocchi tossed in 13, nailing three three-point shots off the bench.

Senior Sonia Thompson chipped in with 10.
