FRANKFORT, Ky. - Sophomore Lindsey Waters picked the perfect game for a career-high 27 points as she led No. 4 Lindsey Wilson to a 68-65 win over No. 5 Rio Grande Thursday afternoon in the 2010 Mid-South Conference women's basketball tournament.

Lindsey Wilson (20-10) will advance to Friday's first semifinal game, where they'll play their archrival, top-seeded Campbellsville, an 80-55 winner over WVU Tech in Thursday morning's opener.

Rio Grande's first season in the Mid-South Conference ends at 16-15.

It was everything a game between 4-5 seeds should be, with no team ever leading by more than seven points. Rio Grande led by as many as five with six minutes to play.

But Lindsey Wilson began its comeback and rode the shoulders of junior all-conference center Viktoria Krell. She had two field goals and followed it with a layup with 3:44 left, giving the Blue Raiders a 64-61 lead.

The Red Storm got back within one twice, including on two free throws with 1:21 left by junior Leah Kendro to make it 66-65.

Lindsey Wilson scored what would prove to be the game's final points when Waters scored inside with 58 seconds left. Rio then missed a shot, but Lindsey was called for a travel with 19 seconds left to keep the game alive.

The Red Storm got an open look from junior all-conference guard Jenna Smith from the top of the key but it came up short. They had one more chance, however, when Krell missed two free throws with 7.2 seconds left. Rio lost control of the basketball, however, and an off-balanced shot from on top of the arc at the horn fell short to send Lindsey Wilson into the semifinals.

Waters' 27 was followed by Krell's 18 as the Blue Raiders controlled the interior and the glass, 36-28, getting nine from junior Bethany Spillman. Senior guard Sierra Rambert tossed in 12.

Rio Grande, which stayed in the game thanks to 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) shooting from the arc, was led by Kendro, another all-conference pick, with 21 on three three-point shots and 6-of-6 shooting from the line. Smith followed with 18 and paced the team with seven rebounds and four steals.
