FRANKFORT, Ky. - Top-seed Campbellsville University opened the 2010 Mid-South Conference women's basketball tournament with a convincing 80-55 win over No. 8 WVU Tech Thursday morning at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Campbellsville became only the second team in the country to reach 30 wins on the season and has only one loss. The Tigers ran through the MSC regular season with a perfect 14-0 mark. WVU Tech ends the season 10-20, having dropped its last six games.

Campbellsville held an early 6-4 lead and then exploded, using a 19-3 run over the next nine minutes to gain a comfortable lead. Six different Tigers scored in the stretch, with only MSC Player of the Year Whitney Ballinger scoring multiple baskets. She had five of her game-high 15 during the run, and when junior Courtney Danis scored with 8:08 left, the lead was 25-7.

As if that wasn't enough, the Tigers later used an 11-4 run to completely put the game away. This time they stepped outside, hitting three three pointers, and it was again Danis who closed it out with a pair of free throws with 1:33 left to make it 40-16.

Junior Wendi Messer joined Ballinger in double figures with 10 points. Three more Tigers had nine markers as 12 different players scored for Coach Ginger Colvin's team.

WVU Tech was paced by junior Shyla Jones, who finished with 11. Jones led the league with an average of 12.3 rebounds per game but was held to six as the Tigers won that battle as well, 35-27.

Freshman Tori Eagle followed for the Lady Golden Bears with nine points.
