FRESNO, Calif. -- The University of Rio Grande RedStorm men's soccer team, the No. 3 seed at the NAIA National Soccer Tournament, advanced to the quarterfinal round with a 2-1 victory over No. 14 seed Columbia (Mo.) College on Monday evening at Ramirez Field.

Rio Grande (17-3-2) scored the first two goals of the game and then held on to move to the round of eight.

Junior mid-fielder Phil Stansfield (Yorkshire, England) started the scoring in the 9^th minute as he placed a header into the net after receiving a cross into the box from junior mid-fielder Ederson Lopes (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

The 1-0 score would remain until the 78^th minute when the RedStorm scored the all-important insurance goal, the goal that proved to be the game-winner.Junior mid-fielder Chris Anderson (Lancaster, England) scored on a header after being set up nicely on the play from junior defender Steven O'Hara (Liverpool, England) and freshman forward Oliver Hewitt-Fisher (Swansea, Wales).

Columbia (16-5-1) avoided the shutout and put pressure on Rio with a goal 23 seconds after Anderson's marker on an unassisted scoring play from Jordan Cox.

Both teams were even with 13 shots each with Rio holding a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

Rio sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Lower (South Webster, OH) recorded three saves while Columbia goalie Ken Searles notched four saves.
