LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Mid-South Conference announced the West Division football honors today as voted on by the MSC coaches. Shorter College senior running back A.J. Cooley is the West Division's Offensive Player of the Year and Shorter senior linebacker Logan Lollis is the West Division's Defensive Player of the Year. Both are repeat winners from a season ago. Cooley averaged 129.9 rushing yards per game and scored 17 rushing touchdowns this season to lead the MSC in both categories. He eclipsed 200 yards rushing in three games this season, including a season-high 255 yards against Belhaven College. Lollis recorded 104 tackles and six sacks this season. His 9-1/2 tackles per game ranks fourth in the MSC. He recorded double digit tackles four times this season, including a season-best 13 tackles against Belhaven. Faulkner University's Triston McCathern is the MSC West Division Freshmen of the Year. Lollis and Bethel College's Desmond Zollicoffer were selected the MSC West Division Champion of Character recipients. The pair earned the award -- as voted on by the conference's athletics director -- for their civic and servant leadership within the campus and community. Lambuth University's Hugh Freeze was voted MSC West Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers. Freeze led Lambuth to an 11-0 record and won the West Division with a 6-0 record. The all-conference team is selected by a vote of each division's coaches. Ties for all-conference are not broken. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. In addition to the 35 all-conference selections, 26 student-athletes were named MSC West Division Honorable Mention. Those student-athletes include; Belhaven's Kevin Dizer, Jerred Wallace, Jack Hayes, Jonathan Gamberi and Ricardo Bolton; Bethel's Hunter Flippo, Cordarius Mann, Marshall Varnum, William Henry, BJ Banks, Antonio Wardlow and Luke Roth; Cumberland's Conner McChurch; Faulkner's Mitchell Thornton; Kentucky Christian's Jordan Moore, John O'Connell, Jake Hughes, Jemichael Williams and Matt Prewitt; Lambuth's Josh Profit, Brandon Okechukwu and Anton Anderson; and Shorter's Andy Kellogg, Daniel Hazard, Garrett Hochstetler and AJ Baker. Sixty-two football student-athletes were recognized as Academic All Mid-South Conference West Division. The distinction is reserved for student-athletes with a sophomore or higher class standing and a 3.25 and above grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Those honored for their work in the classroom: Belhaven College Cedric Clark, Joshua Jackson, Timothy R. McCall and Jerred Wallace.
