Allen Ervin (Lambuth/Offensive), Travis Norris (Pikeville/Defensive) and Julian Tyler (Bethel/Special Teams) have been named this week’s Mid-South Conference Players of the Week in football.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lambuth running back Allen Ervin is the MSC Offensive Player of the Week. The 6’0, 220 lb. senior from Memphis, Tennessee averaged 8.2 yards per carry in Saturday’s 39-28 victory over Cumberland University. Ervin finished the day with 229 yards on 28 carries and two scores, including an 80 yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter which put the game away for the Eagles. Lambuth (2-2, 1-0 MSC) will host the University of the Cumberlands this Saturday in MSC conference action beginning at 2:30 pm.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The MSC Defensive Player of the Week is Travis Norris from Pikeville College. Norris, a 6’3, 315 lb. defensive tackle from Union, South Carolina, was the defensive leader for the Bears in their 34-12 victory over Union College. He recorded five solo tackles (seven total) and two sacks (costing Union 23 yards). Norris also had a fumble recovery, forced another, and blocked a kick. Pikeville (2-2, 1-0 MSC) will travel to Belhaven College this Saturday. Kick off is set for 2:30 pm.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julian Tyler of Bethel College is this week’s MSC Special Teams Player of the Week. The 5’9, 175 lb. sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida made the most of his two kick off returns, scoring touchdowns on both (a first for Bethel football) in Bethel’s 49-20 win over homestanding Belhaven College. Tyler’s returns of 85 and 76 yards were the second and third largest, respectively, in Bethel College history. Tyler also caught three passes for 65 yards and an additional touchdown. The NAIA #5 Wildcats(3-1) will host the top-ten Cavaliers of UVA-Wise this coming Saturday at 2:30 pm.
