MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team advanced to the NAIA National Championships' second round with a 6-3 win over Bethany (Kan.) College in today's opening round at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Blue Raiders play No. 4-seeded California Baptist University -- who earned one of the tournament's eight first round byes -- at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday. Lindsey Wilson grabbed a 2-1 lead after the doubles session. The Blue Raider sophomore pair of Andre Dos Santos and Andrews Moraes won at No. 1 doubles beating the Bethany pair of Adam Hambleton and Mitch DeJong 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Lindsey Wilson junior Freddy Luciani and senior Edward Khan defeated Bethany's Jakub Szymanski and Ivan Rashkov 8-0. Bethany salvaged the lone doubles point as Jack Schoeman and Santiago Gonzalez defeated Lindsey Wilson sophomore Falk Debeenhower and junior Justin Martin 8-5. The Blue Raiders won each of the four points in the top four singles matches with straight set wins. Luciani beat Hambleton 7-5, 6-0 in the top singles match. Moraes (6-0, 6-0), Santos (6-2, 6-0) and Khan (6-2, 6-1) all won to send the Blue Raiders into the second round. The win is the Blue Raiders (11-4) ninth straight heading into their meeting with Cal Baptist (17-2) tomorrow. |
