Luther Bramblett's Patriots have won the first baseball national championship in school history with a 6-4 win Thursday over defending national champion Columbia Union of Maryland in the finals of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. St. Catharine took a 6-0 lead after five innings and held on for the win as reliever Brian Jones got the save for starter Timmy Paxton who pitched into the eighth inning.

Philip Dean was 3-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Kaleb Henry had two hits and two RBI's. Josh Landers had a hit and scored two runs.

The Patriots advanced to the finals by beating # 1 seed Apprentice on Wednesday 13-2 in the action at War Memorial Stadium in Hampton, Virginia. Andy Dietz got the win in that game with five innings of work, allowing two earned runs while fanning six and walking three. Paxton pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Justin Witt had two hits and scored three runs for the Patriots who had 13 hits. Shane Young and Josh Landers also had three hits each and Patrick Jones had two hits. Brad Krohman belted a pinch hit 3-run homer in the seventh inning.

With a 4-0 tournament record the Patriots finish the 2009 campaign with a sparkling 37-14 slate.
