NAIA Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Shawnee State (Ohio) and Campbellsville (Ky.) earn a mention in the NAIA Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, NAIA officials announced on Wednesday.

Shawnee State opens the season and is the lone ranked team from the Mid-South Conference at No. 9. The Bears concluded 2016 ranked 10th in the nation. Shawnee State received 402 voting points from the national voters.

The Bears were selected as the preseason favorite in the Mid-South preseason poll last week.

Campbellsville is the first team outside the top 25, just 13 voting points behind No. 25 Columbia (Mo.). The Tigers garnered 105 voting points in the poll and is one of 12 teams just outside the top 25 but receiving votes.

Defending national champion Southern Oregon sits atop the preseason poll with 526 voting points. St. Francis (Ill.) is second with 508 voting points followed by British Columbia with 503 points.

The national poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing either a conference or the independents.

The first regular season poll is scheduled to be released on Sept. 13.
