COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Shawnee State (Ohio) is the preseason favorite to win the 2017 Mid-South Conference men's cross country championship, conference officials announced on Wednesday.

The Bears received 36 voting points in the preseason poll, including six of the seven first-place votes. Shawnee State captured the 2016 title for its sixth conference crown in the last seven years.

Campbellsville (Ky.) is second in the poll with 30 voting points and the final first-place vote. Cumberlands (Ky.) received 26 voting points to finish third in the preseason poll while Cumberland (Tenn.) is fourth with 20 voting points.

Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) garnered 18 voting points to place fifth in the poll. Georgetown's (Ky.) 11 voting points and Pikeville's (Ky.) six voting points complete the preseason poll.

The 2017 season begins in early September. The Mid-South Conference Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Nov. 4 at Phil Moore Park in Bowling Green, Ky.
