WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) released the honorees for the State Farm Coaches All-American Basketball Team. There were 28 finalists named by the WBCA member coaches from each of the six geographical regions. The 10-member team was selected by an online vote of the selection committee. The committee is comprised of one representative from each of the six geographical regions and a chairperson. University of the Cumberlands women's basketball freshmen Lauren Wombles (London, KY) was one of five girls picked from the fifth region. Wombles is one of only two freshmen that were picked as finalists for this honor. While not making the Final Top 10 All American List, Wombles was chosen as an All-American Honorable Mention recipient by vote. Lauren has scored 493 points this season, leading the Patriot Ladies, averaging 14.5 points a game. Wombles has also pulled down 281 rebounds and has 15 blocked shots. Lauren leads the MSC in field goal percentage with 53.8 percent. She is fourth in the MSC in total rebounds with 281 and 8.27 per game and fifth in free throw percentage at 77.1%. Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
