LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Four Mid-South Conference football teams competed on Saturday in the NAIA Football Championship Series opening round. University of the Cumberlands advanced into the national quarterfinals after beating MSC foe Shorter College 31-7. Cumberlands faces University of Saint Francis (Ind.) next Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind. Saint Francis advanced after beating Union College 58-3 in one of the eight opening round games. Lambuth University also lost in the opening round, falling to Lindenwood (Mo.) University 65-48 in St. Charles, Mo. Cumberlands (10-1) captured the program's first-ever postseason win with the 31-7 victory at James H. Taylor, II Stadium in Williamsburg. The win is the Patriots 10th straight. The Patriots out-gained Shorter 380-141 on the afternoon led by sophomore running back Freddy West's 78 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Click here to read Cumberlands recap.

Saint Francis scored the game's first 24 points en route to the 58-3 win. Union junior running back Terence Pollock finished with 96 yards on the day. Click here to read Union recap.
A 14-point first quarter deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Eagles fell to Lindenwood in a shootout. Lambuth's Josh Garza and Adam Wiese combined for 513 yards passing and six touchdowns in the loss. Click here to read Lambuth recap.
