KENOSHA, Wis. -- Campbellsville University and five individuals from the Mid-South Conference competed at the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships on Saturday at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course. Campbellsville University finished 30th in the 32-team national championship field as senior Miranda Meeks led the Lady Tigers with a 99th place finish. Meeks scored 67 points towards Campbellsville's team total after running the 5,000 meter course in 19 minutes and 1 second. Campbellsville sophomore Amy Etherington finished 254th to earn the Lady Tigers 167 points with a time of 20:12 and freshman Alex Carter crossed the line in 297th with a time of 21:11. The remainder of the Lady Tiger harriers include: sophomore Erin Collins' 23:08, freshman Meagan Pickett's 23:28 and freshman Courtney Tuck's 26:26. Five harriers from MSC schools qualified as individuals for the national championship. A pair from Lindsey Wilson College and one each from Georgetown College, Pikeville College and University of the Cumberlands competed. Georgetown junior Brittney Chesser had the fastest time of the day from a MSC runner. Chesser finished the course with a time of 18:37 and a 53rd place finish. Cumberlands' freshman Lauren Kachel crossed the line in 235th with a time of 20:03 while Lindsey Wilson senior Cassie Niersel (20:44) finished 284th and sophomore Monicah Maiyo (20:45) finished 285th. Pikeville freshman Kylie Schmidt (21:30) ends in 305th place in the 327-woman field. Azusa Pacific University captured the women's title with 66 points and Indiana Tech senior Alissa McKaig won the individual title with a time of 16:41. Prior to the championship, five MSC student-athletes were named 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. The honor is reserved for juniors and seniors with a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
