COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament's top two seeds advanced into the finals with semifinal wins today at Walter S. Reuling Stadium on Lindsey Wilson College's campus.
University of the Cumberlands junior Igor Petsch scored two goals to lead the top-seeded Patriots to a 5-1 win over fourth-seeded Campbellsville University in the first semifinal game.
In the nightcap, Lindsey Wilson senior Nathaniel Jafta scored a hat trick (three goals) to lead the No. 2 seed Blue Raiders to a 5-1 win over third-seeded West Virginia University Institute of Technology.
Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson advance to Thursday's championship match. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
The two teams played to a 0-0 double overtime tie early this season in Williamsburg. They finished the regular season as co-champs after finishing with 5-0-1 records. The Patriots are the top seed after winning a coin flip.
In between the two semifinal games, the 2008 all-conference honors were announced.
Lindsey Wilson freshman forward Moses Aduny and West Virginia Tech midfielder Mile Dragisic were named MSC Men's Soccer Players of the Year.
Campbellsville's Casey Clark was named freshman of the year and Campbellsville's Adam Preston and West Virginia Tech's Florin Marton were named coach of the year.
Lindsey Wilson's Frederick Were was named the MSC Champion of Character recipients.
