FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Mid-South Conference announced the 2008 volleyball honors today in conjunction with the MSC Tournament played at the Frankfort Civic Center.
Campbellsville University sophomore outside hitter Teresa Masava is the MSC Volleyball Player of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
The player of the year award is Masava's second in as many seasons.
Masava led the MSC in kills per game (4.7) and total kills (623) during the season. She ranked second in the conference in service aces (61) and fifth in hitting percentage (.277).
She was selected MSC Player of the Week on six different occasions during the regular season.
Lindsey Wilson freshman outside hitter Mirjam Pfyl is the 2008 Volleyball Freshman of the Year. Pfyl ranked second in the conference in kills per game (4.2), hitting percentage (.321) and service aces per game (0.5).
Georgetown College's Jeff Hulsmeyer and Campbellsville's Randy LeBleu were named co-MSC Coach of the Year, as voted on by their peers.
Hulsmeyer led the Lady Tigers to a perfect 12-0 record and the MSC regular season title. The coach of the year award is Hulsmeyer's second straight after earning the award in 2007.
LeBleu led Campbellsville to a second place finish in the league with a 10-2 record. It is also LeBleu's second after earning the award in 2006.
Georgetown and Campbellsville each placed four on the 10-player all-conference team.
Georgetown's Erica Janszen, Jenna Gronotte, Jessy Hoeh and Amy Barmore, Campbellsville's Masava, Tindi Munyasia, Shannon Cahill and Brittney McKee, University of the Cumberlands' Taran Johnson and Lindsey Wilson's Pfyl make up the all-conference team.
Eighteen Mid-South Conference volleyball student-athletes were honored for their work in the classroom. The group earned Academic All Mid-South Conference for being a sophomore standing or above and maintaining at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
University of the Cumberlands Amanda Hensley was selected as the MSC Volleyball Champions of Character recipient. The annual award is given to the student-athlete that demonstrates academic achievement, campus leadership, community leadership, an embracing the five core character values of the initiative, athletic achievement and future ambition.
The MSC Volleyball Tournament will conclude with tonight's tournament final scheduled are 7 p.m. ET at the Frankfort Civic Center.
