Victoria Masters has been named the Lindsey Wilson College head softball coach, the school announced today.

"Victoria is a young, hungry coach who will bring a fresh perspective to our softball program while keeping us competitive on a yearly basis," said Athletic Director Willis Pooler. "We are excited about Coach Masters joining our department."

The Lindsey Wilson position is Masters' first head coaching job after two seasons as assistant coach at Chadron State (Neb.) College. Masters was an integral part of the process to create the program from scratch at Chadron State, assisting in all the day-to-day activities of the program.

"After learning of the opening at Lindsey Wilson, I knew I wanted to be here," Masters said. "This position is a great opportunity because of the type of program Lindsey Wilson has and the support athletics receives from the administration and community.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of Lindsey Wilson softball and back in the NAIA."

Prior to her coaching career, Masters helped Thomas (Ga.) University win the 2004 NAIA National Championship. She was named to the national tournament's all-tournament team in 2004.

Masters concluded her collegiate playing career after transferring to NCAA Division I Longwood (Va.) University for her senior season.

As the Lindsey Wilson head coach, Masters is looking for great all-around people who can not only perform on the field but in the classroom as well.

"Talent is obviously important, but I am looking for players who have a tremendous family and academic background," Masters said. "It is important to surround your program with great all-around people."

With eleven graduating seniors there is a significant gap to fill in a short amount of time.

"We look to compete and use the fall season as a feeling out process for the incoming freshman," Masters said. "Communicating early with each other is going to be a key and hopefully we can build on that success all season."

The fall softball season begins September 14 and the 2009 season kicks off in March.
