The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics along with the United States Sports Academy recently released the final standings of the USSA Directors' Cup for the NAIA.
The University of the Cumberlands finished in 22nd place, with fellow Mid-South Conference member Lindsey Wilson College in 25th, Campbellsville University in 51st, and Georgetown College in 59th.
Cumberlands Athletic Director Randy Vernon is proud of the overall success of the Patriot athletic program. "This has been a good year for our athletic teams," stated Vernon. "We had several that competed in NAIA national competition and did very well. I have always felt that if we finish in the top 25 in the Directors' Cup standings it is a very successful year. To finish 22nd out of almost 300 schools certainly proves that we have one of the top athletic programs in the NAIA."
The NAIA consists of nearly 300 membership schools and the USSA Directors' Cup is a competition for the best overall sports program in the NAIA. Each NAIA institution is awarded points based on six men and six women's sports. Cumberlands consistently finishes in the Top 25 yearly with a fifth place finish in 2001.
