Patriots defeat Georgetown to advance to MSC Title Game; both teams will advance to Region XI Tournament.
 
The University of the Cumberlands defeated Georgetown College 11-2 today and will now face Campbellsville University in the 2008 Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship, to be played next Thursday, May 1st at 3:00 p.m. EST in Campbellsville, KY for the tournament title.
 
In today's contest, Georgetown got on the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI single by Josh Franklin. The score would stay at 1-0 in favor of the Tigers until the top of the fourth when the Patriots erupted for four runs to takea 4-1 lead. The highlight of the inning was a two-run shot over the right field fence by UC's Robert Mills.
 
The Cumberlands added three more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Javier Gali-Rodriguez hit a three-run homerun to right to account for all three runs in the inning. The Patriots would add one run in the sixth and two more in the ninth, while the Tigers could only put one more run up on the board, courtesy of a double by Brian Conner.
 
Gali-Rodriguez had a monster day at the plate for the Patriots, finishing 3-5 with four RBI's. Trevor Urbanick and Andrew Denton added three hits each. Jon Silverman took the win on the mound, pitching eight innings with 11 hits and two runs while striking out seven. Justin Roth came on in the ninth to earn the save.
 
For Georgetown, Frankline finished 3-4 with an RBI while Jason Frilling added two hits. KC Massie was tagged with the loss, giving up eight runs on ten hits in five innings of work.
 
The Cumberlands will now travel west to take on the Campbellsville Tigers in the MSC Title game this Thursday at four.
 
Both Teams Advance to Regionals
Regardless of the outcome of Thursday's game, both Campbellsville and the Cumberlands will advance to the NAIA Region XI Tournament in Lebanon, TN next week.
