COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Cumberland University's Michael Nwokoji, Kentucky Christian University's Andrew Stewart and Belhaven University's Alonso Acosta are the Mid-South Conference Football Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly honor is the first of the season for all three players.

Nwokoji led the Bulldogs in both rushing and receiving in a 45-43 win over University of Pikeville to earn Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., junior running back rushed for 114 yards -- a 7.6 yards per carry average -- and two touchdowns in the win. Nwokoji's 54-yard touchdown run with 6:17 remaining in the game proved to be the game-winner. He added five catches for 47 yards.

Nwokoji ranks eighth in the Mid-South in rushing yards (399) and rushing yards per game (79.8) this season. He is 44th in the NAIA in rushing yards per game.

Cumberland improves to 4-2 overall with its fourth straight win.

Stewart recorded 14 tackles and two interceptions in the Knights' 22-14 win over No. 17-ranked Lindsey Wilson College on Saturday to earn Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The Cadiz, Ky., junior linebacker turned his first interception into a touchdown with a 21-yard return for the first score of the game. Stewart added two sacks and a fumble recovery in the win.

This season, Stewart ranks fifth in the conference in both tackles per game (8.6) and tackles for a loss (9.5). His two interceptions are tied for sixth in the MSC. Stewart ranks 18th in the NAIA in tackles for a loss.

Kentucky Christian improves to 3-4 overall with the win and 2-1 in the Mid-South East Division.

Acosta set a career-high with four field goals in the Blazers' 40-21 win over Bluefield College to earn MSC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Houston, Texas, freshman kicker connected on field goals from 22, 24, 29 and 33 yards. Acosta was also a perfect 4-for-4 in extra points to give him 16 points in the win.

Acosta added a pair of touchbacks during his kickoffs to raise his season total to eight.

Acosta ranks second among the Mid-South Conference kickers with 43 points this season. He is 9-for-10 in field goals and has made 16 of his 18 extra point attempts. Acosta is second in the NAIA in field goal makes and sixth in kicker scoring.
