LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Cumberland's Jessica Roper is the Mid-South Conference Softball Player of the Week and Shawnee State's Allie Chapman is the MSC Pitcher of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly conference award is Roper's first of her career, while Chapman earns her second straight conference honor of the season and third of her career.

Roper, a sophomore catcher from Bellflower, Calif., helped the Bulldogs (29-14, 11-9 MSC) to a 3-2 week, including a doubleheader sweep at Pikeville. In that stretch of games, Roper hit .636 with a home run, four RBIs, a double and drew three walks.

Both of Cumberland's losses were at 12th-ranked Lindsey Wilson where Roper still went 2-for-3 and 1-for-3. Roper is hitting .338 on the season with a team-best five home runs.

Chapman kept pitcher of the week honors at Shawnee State (14-10, 8-4 MSC) for the second straight award period after posting a 4-0 record in the circle, including a 6-5 decision in 10 innings against the aforementioned No. 12 Blue Raiders.

The Chesapeake, Ohio, sophomore threw complete games in every win with a 1.45 ERA. Chapman didn't allow a hit in a run-rule shortened win against Montreat out of conference, while only two of the five runs allowed against Lindsey Wilson were earned.

Chapman finished the week with 28 strikeouts and just five walks while limiting opponents to a .202 average.

The next softball player and pitcher of the week awards will be announced on Monday, April 15.
