LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Georgetown College and Lindsey Wilson College have separated themselves from the Mid-South Conference pack at the halfway point of conference play.
The Tigers and Blue Raiders each own a 7-1 conference record and sit three games in front of a trio of teams at 4-4 in the MSC standings with eight games to play.
While Georgetown (17-3) and Lindsey Wilson (15-4) are poised to battle down the stretch for the MSC regular season title, anything can happen in season where upsets and buzzer-beaters have become the norm.
Of the 36 games this season in the Mid-South Conference, 12 have been decided by a single possession -- three points or less -- and 25 have been decided by nine or fewer points.
The week, No. 6-ranked Georgetown opens the second half of the conference schedule with a trip to St. Catharine College (8-8, 4-4 in the MSC) on Thursday. On Saturday, the Tigers travel to Campbellsville University (13-7, 2-6) -- who lost to Georgetown 61-60 in the first meeting on a last second shot in Georgetown.
No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson continues its road swing this week with a Thursday game at UVa.-Wise (6-9, 3-5) and on Saturday at No. 23-ranked and defending national champions University of Pikeville (12-7, 4-4).
University of the Cumberlands (11-7, 4-4) also makes road trips to Wise and Pikeville this week. The Patriots meet Pikeville on Thursday for a battle to remain in third place in the MSC and then to Wise on Saturday.
Shawnee State University (8-11, 3-5) travels Campbellsville on Thursday and to St. Catharine on Saturday, while University of Rio Grande (10-11, 2-6) hosts West Virginia University Tech (13-6) on Saturday to complete conference schedule this week.
