The University of the Cumberlands is proud to announce that the head golf coach position has been filled by Chris Kraftick.

Kraftick reigns from Wooster, OH and was graduated from Wilmington College.  At Wilmington, he was named an All Conference player his junior and senior years.  In 1999, Kraftick joined the Cumberlands staff as the Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach and from there decided to pursue his passion for golf and took the position of Assistant Golf Professional at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, KY.  In 2004, he became a PGA member and was promoted to Head Golf Professional at Crooked Creek where he remained until his recent acceptance of new head golf coach at Cumberlands.

Kraftick stated, “I will remain a member at Crooked Creek and I think everything they are doing is great.  Bill [Sergent, former UC Head Coach] will always be part of the golf program here at Cumberlands.  He is a great friend that I will lean on and look to for advice. His efforts that have been put into the program for the past 30 years should be greatly appreciated.”

Kraftick explained that being head golf coach at Cumberlands is perfect timing and puts two things together that he loves: golf and coaching.  This position will also allow for more time with his wife, Rebecca Kraftick and his three children, Lynsey (10), Mason (5), and Emory (1).

Coach Kraftick commented, “During my first year I hope to really raise the energy of the program.  I want to stress player development. Working on improving current players, putting a lot of effort into recruiting, and spending a lot of time teaching and explaining the game will be things that will get us there.  With the resources available from the school and the network I have with golf affiliates across the state there is no reason this can’t be a successful program.  In addition, my main focus as a coach will be to change the mindset of the players here, improve practice habits, and raise expectation levels.”

Kraftick went further to explain that one mission of his is to bring the men and women together allowing them to practice and travel together and as an end result become one team.

Athletic Director Randy Vernon had this to say about Kraftick, “We are very excited to have Chris join us as head golf coach.  His experience as a teaching pro will be valuable to both the men and women.  His enthusiasm and excitement for the job and about the position was very evident in the interview.  I look forward to working with him for several years to come.”
