LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Shawnee State University's Sara Armstrong is the Mid-South Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The weekly MSC award is the first of the season for Armstrong and the first of her career.

Armstrong ended the 5,000-meter course 13th overall and first in the Intercollegiate Division at the 12th Annual Flyer Classic hosted by the University of Dayton (Ohio) on Saturday. The Sylvania, Ohio, junior, crossed the line in a time of 18 minutes and 36 seconds.

Racing against a predominantly NCAA field, Armstrong finished 1:14 behind Miami (Ohio) University's Rachel Patterson, who finished with a course record. One hundred and sixty-seven harriers competed in the event.

Armstrong led the Bears to a third place finish in the Intercollegiate Division. Ohio Northern University won the Intercollegiate Division.

The next MSC Women's Cross Country Player of the Week is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Sept. 13.
