LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Georgetown College senior middle blocker Kyla Welch is the Mid-South Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending Aug. 28, the conference announced on Monday. Welch also earns the MSC Hitter of the Week award, while Shawnee State University senior Haley Halcomb is the MSC Setter of the Week and Georgetown's Lauren Meister is the MSC Libero of the Week. Welch earned all-tournament honors while averaging three kills per game and compiling a .391 hitting percentage in the Tigers' four wins at the Early Bird Tournament hosted by University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Lexington, Ky., native, record double-digit kills in three of her four matches, including 16 kills in the Tigers' 3-2 win over No. 21-ranked Madonna (Mich.) University. Welch added three solo blocks and eight assisted blocks along with five digs to complete her week. Meister recorded double-digit digs in all four matches, including a season-high 35 digs in the Tigers win over Madonna. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native, averaged 5.71 digs per game and added three service aces to her week. Meister made just three receiving errors in 77 chances last week for a .961 reception percentage. No. 23-ranked Georgetown opens the season 4-0 with its sweep last week. The Tigers return to action on Sept. 7 as they host MSC foe Lindsey Wilson College in their conference opener. Halcomb averaged 11.58 assists and three digs per game while helping Shawnee State win three of four matches on the week. The Frankfort, Ohio, native, recorded a double-double in a win over Point Park (Pa.) University (30 assists and 18 digs) and a loss to Northwestern Ohio University (41 assists and 10 digs). Halcomb also added a pair of service aces and three solo blocks in her four matches last week. No. 19-ranked Shawnee State is 3-1 on the season and returns to action on Sept. 1 against Capital (Ohio) University in Portsmouth, Ohio. Welch, Halcomb and Meister are the first recipients of the weekly conference awards. The next volleyball players of the week are scheduled to be announced on Monday, Sept. 6. MSC Players of the Week
