LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi and Lindsey Wilson College senior forward Carnell Learmond are the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Aug. 28, the conference announced on Monday.
Viscosi recorded a pair of shutouts and combined for another to earn MSC Defensive Player of the Week. The Ottawa, Ontario, native, collected three saves in the RedStorm's 2-0 win over Houghton (N.Y.) College to open the week.
Viscosi combined with teammate Jack Marchant to shutout Grace (Ind.) University 7-0 and one day later stopped the only shot on goal in the RedStorm's 4-0 win over Spring Arbor (Mich.) University.
On the week, Viscosi collected four saves the three RedStorm wins.
No. 4-ranked Rio Grande opens the season 3-0. The RedStorm returns to action at 7 p.m. ET as they host MSC foe Shawnee State University.
Learmond scored a career-high four goals in the only Blue Raider game of the week to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week. The Clarendon, Jamaica, native, scored four straight goals as Lindsey Wilson defeated host Pikeville College 6-0.
With his outburst, Learmond leads the MSC in both points (8) and goals scored (4) on the season.
No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson improves to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the MSC with the win. The Blue Raiders return to action on Sept. 5 as they travel to St. Charles. Mo., to face Graceland (Iowa) University in the Lindenwood (Mo.) University Classic.
Viscosi and Learmond are the first recipients of the weekly conference awards. The next men's soccer players of the week are scheduled to be announced on Monday, Sept. 6.
