LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Defending national champions Lindsey Wilson College is atop the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top-25 Poll, announced by the NAIA on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders lead a trio of Mid-South Conference teams to earn national recognition in the first poll of the season. University of Rio Grande is No. 4, while University of the Cumberlands in receiving votes in the national poll. Lindsey Wilson received 560 voting points, including 19 of the 20 first-place votes. The Blue Raiders enter 2010 fresh off the program's eighth national title and the MSC regular season and tournament titles. LWC finished 2009 with a 20-2-1 record, including 12 straight wins to close the season. Rio Grande received 514 voting points from the panel of coaches representing conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups across the NAIA. The Red Storm finished the 2009 season one match shy of playing for the program's second national title, falling in penalty kicks in the national semifinal to The Master's (Calif.) College. Rio ended last season with an 18-3-3 record. Cumberlands just missed cracking the Top-25 as the Patriots sit at No. 28 with 88 voting points. Rounding out the top-five is No. 2 The Master's with 538 voting points, No. 3 Simon Fraser (B.C.) University with 518 voting points and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University with 465 voting points. No. 6-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College received 439 voting points and the final first-place vote. The first regular season national poll is scheduled to be released on September 7.
