WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands always takes great pride in its academics, students, athletics, and staff. In doing so, the Patriots have accumulated numerous honors over the years. The most recent honor has been bestowed upon Head Baseball Coach Brad Shelton. Shelton has been named the 2010 Mid-South Conference (MSC) recipient of the NAIA Coach of Character Award.
Coach Shelton won his 300th game as a Patriot in the 2010 season as well as his 500th career game. The Patriots went 28-28 on the season and finished 5th in the Mid-South Conference. Over his tenure as the Patriot head man, Shelton has won three regular season MSC Championships and one MSC Tournament Title in 2004. He also has led the Patriots to five NAIA Region XI appearances in nine seasons.
When asked about receiving this honor, Shelton said, "It is an honor to receive this award. I believe strongly in the five core values that the NAIA and Mid-South Conference have established through the Champion of Character program. As a Christian, those values align with my faith. There are many coaches at our university and in our league that I look up to and I am thankful for the honor."
