MARION, Ind. -- The Shorter University men's track & field team finished sixth at the NAIA Men's Track & Field National Championships May 27-29 at Indiana Wesleyan University Outdoor Track Complex.
The Hawks finished with 35 points -- one of three MSC teams to score -- to finish in the top-10 for the second straight season. Shorter finished fifth in 2009.
Lindsey Wilson College finished tied for 38th with seven points, while Bethel University ended in a tie for 53rd with three points. Wayland Baptist (Texas) University captured the title with 70 team points. Sixty-nine schools scored during the three-day event.
Eleven Shorter student-athletes earned NAIA All-American honors for their top-six finish in their event. Shorter's Nick Dodson led the way earning All-American honors in the 400-meter hurdles and teamed with Randall Dameron, Montez Valentine and Terence Scruggs to earn national honors in the 4x400-meter relay.
Also earning All-American honors is Shorter's Montagious Brown (high jump), Nate Scott (110-meter hurdles), Shaun Kennedy (100-meter dash) and Allen O'Neal, Peter Limo, Anthony Taylor and Eliud N'Getich (4x800-meter relay). Bethel's Keith Hawkins, D'Angelo Gray, Chaz Dial and Brandon Cleaves earned All-American honors for their finish in the 4x100 meter relay, while Lindsey Wilson's Ricardo Vergara and Roberto Vergara earned All-American in the 5,000-meter race walk.
Thirty-three MSC student-athletes competed at the national championships. Shorter produced the most qualifiers with 14 participants.
