SILVIS, Ill. -- University of the Cumberlands' Pierre Carlsson finished in the top-10 to help the Patriots to a tie for 16th at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships at TPC Deere Run.
Carlsson was named to the all-tournament team -- reserved for the top 15 finishers -- for his tie for eighth in the four-day event. Friday's even par 71 marked Carlsson's third even par round of the championships. He finished with a score of 293 (71-71-80-71).
The Patriots concluded the championships with a team-total of 1,222 (299-299-323-201) to tie for the 16th. Oklahoma City captured its seventh national title with a four-round total of 1,184 (293-299-304-288). Oklahoma Christian University finished second with a 1,189 (291-301-306-291).
Cumberlands' Aaron Watkins fired his best round of the tournament on Friday with an even par 71. Watkins jumped 34 spots into a tie for 52nd as he concluded the tournament with a four-day total of 307 (79-75-82-71). Ninety-eight golfers made the cut to play Friday's final round.
Michael Burgin concluded the tournament in a tie for 64th with a 310 (77-72-81-80) and Niclas Rigbrandt finished with a 316 (76-81-80-79) to end up in a tie for 80th. Curtis Mitchell rounded out the Patriot quintet with a 332 (75-86-87-84) to finish in 97th place.
Malone (Ohio) University's Justin Lower captured the individual national championship with a four-day total of four-under par 290 (68-70-71-71). He won the championship by six shots over Madonna (Mich.) University's Brett Quitiquit who finished with a 286 (68-71-76-71).
