SILVIS, Ill. -- University of the Cumberlands' Pierre Carlsson led the Patriots up the 2010 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships leaderboard on Wednesday at TPC Deere Run.
Carlsson's even-par 71 helped the Patriots climb a spot into a tie for seventh place. Cumberlands shot its second straight 291 for a two-day total of 598. The Patriots are 12 strokes behind second round leader University of South Carolina-Beaufort's 586 (295-291).
Carlsson is tied for third in the 156-man field. He trails Malone College's Justin Lower by four strokes. Lower fired his second consecutive sub-par round on Wednesday and sits atop the leaderboard with a 138 (68-70).
Cumberlands' Michael Burgan rebounded from a 79 in the opening round to a one-over par 72 on Wednesday. Watkins climbed 45 spots to a tie for 29th with a two-day total of 149.
Aaron Watkins is tied 71st overall with a 154 (79-75) and Niclas Rigbrandt (157) and Curtis Mitchell (161) are tied for 95th and 122nd respectively.
Georgetown College's Christian Heavens -- the conference tournament medalist -- climbed three spots into a tied for 114th with his second straight 80.
The third round continues at 7:30 a.m. CT on Thursday at TPC Deere Run. The tournament concludes on Friday, May 21.
