MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team's season ended today with a 5-0 loss to No. 3-seed Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University in the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Blue Raiders close the 2010 season with 16-5 record.
With the win, Point Loma Nazarene advances to Thursday's quarterfinals against No. 6-seed Brenau (Ga.) University.
Lindsey Wilson struggled out of the gate dropping all three doubles matches.
The top Lindsey Wilson pair of Trina Slapeka and Jessica Weyreuter fell 8-2 to Point Loma Nazarene's Kristin Strimple and Ashley Litchfield. In the closest doubles match, LWC's Slavica Milanovic and Agnieszka Wojowicz fell to Rachel Owens and Jessica Kwan 8-6.
At No. 3 doubles, Lindsey Wilson's Marina Pacifico and Lindsey Sheene lost 8-0 to Kiersten Steinhauer and Wileen Chiu.
In singles play, the Blue Raiders quickly fell behind 4-0 when Chiu swept Sheene 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles in what proved to be the only lopsided singles match.
Lindsey Wilson seized the momentum as Milanovic, Wojowicz and Pacifico all won their first set in No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. After dropping their opening set at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Slapeka and Weyreuter rebounded to win the second set and force a decisive third set.
But Lindsey Wilson's margin of error proved to be too thin as Owens won the final two sets at No. 3 singles against Milanovic to secure the fifth and final point with the 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win. The rest of the matches did not finish after Point Loma Nazarene reached the five points.
The loss ends the Blue Raiders 13-match winning streak.
