CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande's Ryan Yakura's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the game winner as the second-seeded Redstorm beat top-seed and host Campbellsville University 3-2 today in the MSC Tournament at Tiger Field. MSC Freshman of the Year Ryan Robertson out-dueled MSC Pitcher of the Year Ian Pick to send the Redstorm into the MSC Tournament finals scheduled for Saturday at Tiger Field. Robertson (12-1) picked up his conference-leading 12th win of the year with the complete-game win. He allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out seven Campbellsville batters. Pick suffered the hard-luck loss allowing three runs on seven hits in an eight-inning complete-game effort. The loss was the first of the season for Pick (10-1). Campbellsville (38-19) struck first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. Tiger catcher Richie Rowland doubled home Alex Ponich and Brian Chase in the top of the first inning to give Campbellsville the 2-0 lead. Robertson scattered seven hits over the next eighth innings. He allowed just one Tiger to reach third base the remainder of the game. Rio Grande (46-10) began its comeback in the bottom of the second when Yakura reached base after being hit by a pitch. Following a Yakura stolen base, John Storey cut the deficit to 2-1 with a RBI single up the middle. One inning later, Chris Mahon's RBI single tied the game at 2-2. The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth inning. Rio Grande's Tyler Schunk led off the inning reaching on an error and advanced to second two batters later when Mahon was hit by a pitch. Yakura broke the tie with a single to shallow center field to give the Redstorm their first lead of the game at 3-2. Robertson made the most of the lead, retiring the Tigers in order in the top of the ninth to secure the 3-2 win. Rio Grande advances to the tournament's championship in its inaugural season in the MSC. Campbellsville falls into the consolation bracket and faces No. 3-seed Georgetown College in an elimination game tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET at Tiger Field. Rio Grande faces the winner of the Campbellsville-Georgetown at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday at Tiger Field in the MSC Tournament Finals, with a second championship game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET if the Redstorm fall in tomorrow's opener of the double-elimination tournament.
