CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Year Tyler Schunk led second-seeded University of Rio Grande to a 7-2 win over No. 3-seed Georgetown College today in the MSC Tournament at Tiger Field.

Rio Grande advances into Friday's winner's bracket game against the winner of top-seeded and host Campbellsville University and fourth-seeded St. Catharine College, who play later today. Georgetown falls into the consolation bracket and faces the loser of the Campbellsville-St. Catharine game tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

Schunk led the Redstorm (45-10) with a complete game win on the mound and a two-hit, two-RBI performance at the plate.

Schunk scattered seven hits while allowing two runs in the win. He struck out seven Georgetown batters.

Rio Grande's Brad Konrad scored in the first and third innings to give the Redstorm an early 2-0 lead. Konrad finished the game with three hits and three runs scored.

Rio's Michael Lynch and Ryan Yakura helped the Redstorm double their score in the fifth and sixth innings. Lynch's two-out RBI single in the fifth inning gave the Redstorm a 3-0 lead and Yakura's solo home run in the sixth extended the lead to 4-0.

Georgetown's Pete Thackston cut the lead in half with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. But that's as close as the Tigers (26-31) would get.

The Redstorm scored a run in the seventh and a pair in the ninth on a two-run double by Schunk.

Rio Grande pounded out 12 hits in the game -- 11 off Georgetown starter Kevin Rueff. Rueff allowed seven runs in 8-2/3 innings pitched.

Thackston was the lone Tiger with multiple hits. He finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and two RBIs.

Rio Grande advances in the double-elimination tournament where they play the Campbellsville-St. Catharine winner at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, May 7 at Tiger Field.
