CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The 2011 Mid-South Conference baseball awards were announced today at the conference's annual banquet on the Campbellsville University campus.

Eighteen student-athletes were honored as All Mid-South Conference while another 21 players were selected honorable mention all-conference. In addition to the all-conference teams, the 2011 MSC Gold Glove team, Academic All Mid-South Conference, players of the year, coach of the year and champions of character recipient were recognized.

Shawnee State University's Phillip Butler was selected by the conference coaches as the MSC Player of the Year, while Campbellsville's Michael McBride is the MSC Pitcher of the Year.

Butler leads the conference in six different statistical categories, including home runs (10), runs batted in (64), doubles (17), hits (65), total bases (116) and slugging percentage (.620). His .348 batting average is 12th best in the MSC.

Nationally, Butler is eighth in the NAIA in RBIs, 19th in doubles and 34th in home runs.

McBride led the MSC with a 1.03 earned run average and finished third in the conference in opponent's batting average (.195) and hits allowed per game (6.4). He owns a 6-2 record and has allowed just six earned runs -- which leads the NAIA -- in his 52-1/3 innings of work.

In addition to leading the nation in earned runs allowed, McBride ranked third in the NAIA in ERA.

University of the Cumberlands' Jared Martin was named MSC Freshman of the Year after batting .377 during the year with 30 RBIs.

Campbellsville coach Beauford Sanders was voted by his peers as MSC Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to the MSC regular season title.

Shawnee State's Cory Pallutch was named the MSC Baseball Champions of Character recipient. Pallutch earned the award -- as voted on by the conference athletics director -- for his civic and servant leadership within the campus and community.

The 2011 All Mid-South Conference infield consists of University of Rio Grande's Francisco Ramirez at first base, West Virginia University Tech's Josh Wenderoth at second base, Martin at shortstop, Shawnee State's Cody Morrison at third base and St. Catharine College's Juan Moriel as the extra fielder.

The all-conference outfield contains St. Catharine's Carlos Hernandez, Cumberlands' Sean Mahley, Campbellsville's Jameel Ziadeh and Lindsey Wilson College's Jeff Kerian.

Butler and St. Catharine's Alan Stoupa are the all-conference catchers while Georgetown College's Pete Thackston is the all-conference designated hitter.

In addition to McBride, Georgetown's K.C. Massie, Lindsey Wilson's Derek Cape, University of Virginia's College at Wise's Ryan Crosby and Cumberlands' Brandon Williams make up the all-conference starting pitching staff. Georgetown's Chad Richie is the all-conference relief pitcher.

Those named honorable mention all-conference are Campbellsville's Sean Bouthilette, Rylan Chin, Rusty Devitt, Michael Durham, Craig Edwards and Drew Pettit; Cumberlands' Evan Bennett, Quentin Bowman, Andrew Fox, Justin Jackson and Shane Stancil; Georgetown's Tanner Baldwin, Tyler Fisher and Jason McGinnis; Pikeville's Obed Quiles; Rio Grande's Desmond Sullivan; Shawnee State's Kendal Coleman and Danny Gesick; St. Catherine's Tim Paxton and Luis Zeledon; and West Virginia Tech's Mike Coladonato.

The MSC Gold Glove team is Ramirez (first base), Cumberlands' Jake Martin (second base), Baldwin (shortstop), Bennett (third base), Mahley, Durham and UVa.-Wise's Brad Ricker (outfield), Georgetown's Brian Smith (catcher) and St. Catharine's Tim Paxton (pitcher).

Forty-five baseball student-athletes were recognized as Academic All Mid-South Conference. The distinction is reserved for student-athletes with a sophomore or higher class ranking and a 3.25 and above grade point average.

The six-team double elimination tournament begins today at Campbellsville. Due to additional rain last night, the opening game begins at 3 p.m. ET.

No. 3-seed Cumberlands faces fourth-seeded Shawnee State at 3 p.m. ET followed by No. 2-seed UVa.-Wise and fifth-seeded Georgetown College at 6 p.m. ET. In the nightcap, top-seeded Campbellsville faces sixth-seeded St. Catharine at 9 p.m. ET.
